It is helpful to understand how sweatshops are interconnected and fuel other global issues. Such as child labor laws, low wages, and the safety of their workers. According to a National Labor Committee 2006 report, “an estimated 200 children, some 11 years old or even younger, are sewing clothing for Hanes, Walmart, J.C. Penney, and Puma at the Harvest Rich factory in Bangladesh”. This connects to child labor laws on because the stores are exploiting the children. They are making them work while paying them minimum wage. When in reality these kids should be at school instead of working in an unsafe warehouse. According to the world counter “ Sweatshop workers wages can be as low as 1 US cent per hour, and they work up to 100 hours a week in conditions of poor air quality and extreme heat.” This proves that the workers are receiving an unlivable wage for the work they are doing. They are suffering from the poor conditions for a few cents to provide for their family; however, they got no choice but to deal with that. Safety is a bigger issue that people who work at sweatshops have to deal with, while working the condition in the place is very hot. According to international labor rights “An eight-story building that housed five garment factories collapsed, in the deadliest disaster in the history of the global garment industry. At least 1,138 workers were killed and 2,500 others were injured in the Rana Plaza collapse” In other words this particular sweatshop in Bangladesh did not provide their workers a safe working environment. Which ultimately led to the dead of many and injured many others. This shows how bad the conditions in sweatshops are, the workers are not safe , they are risking their life just to get the minimum wage. Everyday could be a risk for them. |
Sweatshops are very present all around the world, wherever you go there's going to be a sweatshop According to a statistic picture;
“ Countries are an estimated 29 million in modern slavery globally” This shows that million of people all around the world, are being affected by sweatshops. China is a developing country that faces sweatshops since china produces everything. Every citizen has no choice but to work on a sweatshop for the minimum wage. According to “waronwant” “more than 482 million people in China – 36% of the population – live on less than $2 a day. This shows how chinese people are working in sweatshop, they are just earning 2 $ a day ,they live out of that which is nothing. According to Phil star, “ Nike has factories in Indonesia because typical workers can earn the equivalent of around $3.50 per day, which for a six day workweek. "On April 24, 2013, an eight-story building that housed five garment factories collapsed, . At least 1,138 workers were killed and 2,500 others were injured"
