As I mentioned in my research paper earlier sweatshops exploit their workers; giving them dangerous working conditions and very low wages. However, what if the working environment and wages are actually better than what they would dealing with if they were employed somewhere else. People have argued that sweatshops are actually helping the people escape poverty. “ In fact, sweatshop earnings even compared favorably to the average incomes in the countries where they were located. In six of the 17 countries, the average reported sweatshop wage exceeded the average income in the country — in Haiti, Honduras, and Nicaragua it was more than twice the national average.” This proves that some people believe that sweatshops are actually a good thing. That they actually help people. However, in my research it was pretty clear that most people felt that it was unfair to treat their workers the way they do. Also they are not even helping them out of poverty, they’re keeping them afloat by a little. Meaning they will never get out of poverty, and will be forced to stay working. |
