Sweatshops have been around for many years. Some have even considered sweatshops as a form of modern day slavery.This modern day slavery,or sweatshops , can be traced back to early times.According to Encyclopedia of management:
“One of the earliest examples of a sweatshop was in the crude textile mills of Ecuador. Spanish conquerors put the native population to work in sweatshop conditions in the manufacture of cloth, rough garments, and assorted textile goods. The use of the term is more recently traced to working conditions in England's emerging manufacturing industries, where women and children sweated in jobs performed under horrid conditions.” |
This Proves how and when sweatshops started, since the spanish conquerors were pretty much taking over everything. They just decided to use the rest of the population as slaves . Since they were not as “educated” as the spaniard,they choose to exploit the native people.The natives were forced to work even though they knew they were going to be treated bad and have poor working conditions. We all know that sweatshops are all around the world, is just spreading through the big companies that are in demand for their products. So they basically take advantage of people and pay them low and have no safety at work. For example;
“In 2006 Apple faced allegations that its iPod product was being produced in China under sweatshop conditions. Apple was quick to respond to these charges, launching its own investigation; however, the Apple example also points out how difficult combating sweatshops can be. Apple's official policy sets conditions against sweatshops.”.
This shows how companies started sweatshops since in the united states they aren't allow to use sweatshops,they produce their products in other countries around the world.For example this is why china is a main target when we talk about sweatshops. Everything is produced there.
My topic has influence all around the world either economics, political and etc. There's many companies around the world that use sweatshops and don't pay what they should to their workers.This creates sweatshops to rise and make more of the product. For example;
“From a business perspective, sweatshops are overwhelmingly lucrative since they capitalize on low-wage labor in developing countries and significantly reduce production costs. Many major clothing and footwear companies, have been linked to sweatshops. Brands such as Nike, GAP, Converse and Levi’s, have all been guilty of numerous violations of requirements for reasonable working conditions in their production facilities. All of their headquarters and customer bases are located in the United States.”
This is important because, i've always wonder why does everything says made in china. Now reading this articles it proves how big companies would try to do everything. Just to get money for themselves, people just care about what new products are coming soon, but this just makes companies rich and rich. But people who actually make their products don't get anything, they are treated really bad. They should at least get pay the minimum wage since this companies are gonna get a lot of money in return for what they sell.
